“My Life is True” is a project in which people tell a significant story about their personal lives and record it in a two-minute sound clip. These clips are aired on NPR’s Morning Edition in Northern California.  

What I find to be extremely inspiring about these clips is the fact that normal people are telling such extraordinary stories. These are people that you and I walk next to on the street on our way to work, see in grocery stores, etc. These are essentially people just like you and I. It’s a reminder that people aren’t what you see in one glance. All it takes is a two-minute story to get a better perspective.

What’s great about this website is that most of these stories are relatable on a large scale, but because each account is shortened to two minutes, the storytellers give a side of the story that people aren’t used to listening to. For instance, one of the stories hits pretty close to home as a recent college graduate. A girl talks about her struggles and options when paying for college. This is a situation so many of us come across at some point in our lives, but she decided to go about it differently than most people I know- by robbing a bank. In just two minutes you hear a captivating story told with unmatchable passion.

I can’t help but wonder how many more people have interesting stories to tell and are just looking for someone to listen to them. Unfortunately, not everyone gets a chance to tell their stories, but this website is a step in the right direction. What would your story be?
